Buttercream Frosting

There is no reason to buy canned frosting from the grocery store when you can make it so easily and cheaply at home. And the taste is so much better! There are 4 simple ingredients:

1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter at room temperature
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon water
(you can substitute 1 tablespoon milk if you prefer. I find that my frosting comes out better with water).
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

My KtchenAid stand mixer whips that frosting to perfection so beautifully! But you do not need a stand mixer, you can use a regular electric mixer too. It took trial and error for my to realize that you do not add the powdered sugar all at once. Start with the stick of butter cut into chunks and 1 cup of the sugar. Once that is well mixed, then add the second cup and beat for a few minutes. Only then do you add your water and vanilla extract.

You will never need those cans of frosting again, I promise!
